Unlocking Attachment Issues: A Conversation with Adam Lane Smith, Attachment Specialist Ep 198

I had a conversation with Adam Lane Smith on the podcast. He’s an attachment specialist who helps people to heal, connect and build healthy relationships. Adam has coached clients through his attachment method for years, and he’s helped people from a variety of lifestyles, from blue collar families with marital troubles to millionaire CEOs looking for dating help, anyone looking to fix their dating life, marriage, or overall health of all relationships.

Adam spent six years in graduate school to get his master’s degree in psychology. Then spent three additional years of apprenticeship under five different clinicians with three or four different licensure types. It took him nine years to become a psychotherapist.

In this interview between myself and Adam Lane Smith, Adam shares his expertise as an attachment specialist and discusses how he helps people heal, connect, and build healthier relationships. Adam’s journey began 15 years ago when he decided to fix his own attachment issues. As a child, he struggled with insecurity and had difficulty expressing his needs and building meaningful connections. Through personal growth and introspection, he was able to improve his relationships and wanted to help others do the same.

Adam explains that attachment is the way humans connect and give/receive love. It involves building secure connections where trust, honesty, and support are present. However, many people struggle with attachment due to negative experiences in their past. Adam emphasizes the importance of understanding attachment and its impact on one’s life.

When it comes to attachment, Adam clarifies that it extends beyond relationships with people. It can also manifest in attachment to material possessions, social media, and other external factors. He explains that both types of attachment can result in an unhealthy obsession with seeking dopamine highs.

The most common form of attachment is secure attachment, where individuals trust themselves and others to meet their needs in a healthy and supportive manner. Adam emphasizes that secure attachment is the ideal type that people should strive for. However, he also discusses the two common types of insecure attachment: anxious attachment and avoidant attachment. Anxious attachment is characterized by a fear of abandonment and a constant need for validation, while avoidant attachment involves keeping others at a distance to avoid being hurt or betrayed.

Adam believes that raising awareness about attachment is crucial for personal growth and development. He encourages individuals to learn about attachment and understand its impact on their lives. By becoming aware of their attachment style and its origins, people can begin to take action and make positive changes.

Adam outlines a five-step action plan for addressing attachment issues.

Before the steps it’s important to learn about attachment and its implications.

  • Step one involves identifying and defining your core values as a person. This step helps individuals understand their own principles and ensure that their actions align with their values.
  • Step two is to recognize how attachment issues have led to a violation of those core values. By understanding the negative patterns and behaviors associated with attachment, individuals can start to address and change them.
  • Step three involves challenging and changing negative thought patterns and beliefs about oneself and others. This step requires introspection and self-reflection to reframe negative narratives and replace them with positive and empowering beliefs.
  • Step four focuses on building healthier relationships by setting boundaries, communicating needs, and fostering trust and intimacy.
  • Step five is about continuous growth and improvement. It involves ongoing self-awareness, learning, and seeking support from professionals or mentors when needed.

By following this action plan, individuals can begin to heal their attachment wounds, develop healthier patterns of connection, and lead more fulfilling lives. Adam’s work as an attachment specialist has helped countless individuals navigate their relationships, build stronger connections, and achieve personal growth.

Overall, this interview with Adam Lane Smith provides valuable insights into attachment theory and offers practical steps for individuals to address their attachment issues and improve their relationships. By understanding the impact of attachment on our lives, we can take proactive steps towards healing, connecting, and building healthier relationships.

Devin Burke Helps Improve Your Health, Energy, Mood and Life with Proper Sleep Ep 129

On this episode, my guest is Devin Burke. Devin helps high achievers and exhausted Insomniacs all over the world to get and say asleep. Devin is a Certified Sleep Science Coach, TedX Speaker, Best Selling Author of the book “The Sleep Advantage”, and founder of the Sleep Science Academy. He was named one of the top 25 health coaches in America.

Devin Burke, a sleep expert and founder of Sleep Science Academy, discussed the importance of sleep and shared tips for improving sleep quality. Devin explained that his interest in sleep was sparked by a client who was struggling with sleep issues. He discovered that there were limited effective solutions available and realized the need for more scientific knowledge in this area.

Devin emphasized the significance of sleep, noting that lack of sleep can have a detrimental impact on cognitive function, decision-making, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Many people are not aware of the extent to which poor sleep affects them because they have become accustomed to it as the norm.

When discussing strategies for better sleep, Devin highlighted three key areas: the mind, the body, and the environment. While many people tend to focus on environmental factors first, such as light and noise in the bedroom, Devin stressed that sleep issues are often rooted in mental and physical stress. He emphasized the importance of addressing underlying stressors in one’s life, such as work-related concerns, financial worries, or relationship challenges. Slowing down, creating self-awareness, and practicing mindfulness techniques can help mitigate stress and improve sleep.

Regarding the body’s role in sleep, Devin mentioned the circadian rhythm and sleep pressure. He explained that maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, including waking up at the same time every day, helps regulate the body’s internal clock. Additionally, avoiding excessive caffeine consumption and allowing natural sleepiness to build up by not interfering with the adenosine process can contribute to better sleep.

Devin acknowledged the importance of nighttime routines in preparing the body for sleep. Establishing habits and rituals, such as dimming lights, disconnecting from technology, and engaging in relaxation practices like meditation or reading, can signal the body that it’s time to wind down. Consistency in these routines helps train the body to recognize sleep cues and prepare for restful sleep.

To determine if one is getting good sleep, Devin recommended tracking and measuring sleep quality using devices like the Whoop or Aura Ring. These wearables provide objective data that can help individuals understand the duration and quality of their sleep. Subjective experiences, such as feeling groggy or lacking mental clarity upon waking, can also indicate poor sleep quality.

Devin acknowledged that cultivating awareness of how one feels in the morning can be challenging but crucial for making positive changes. He suggested journaling and experimentation to test different strategies and observe the impact on energy levels and overall well-being. Many people underestimate the significance of sleep and settle for suboptimal energy levels, not realizing the potential for improvement.

In conclusion, Devin Burke’s interview shed light on the importance of sleep and provided practical tips for enhancing sleep quality. By addressing mental and physical stress, establishing consistent sleep schedules, and implementing nighttime routines, individuals can optimize their sleep and reap the benefits of improved energy, focus, and overall health. It is essential to prioritize sleep and recognize its crucial role in achieving peak performance and well-being.

Alternative Medicine with Jonathan Palatnikov

A good friend of mine Jon Palatnikov is on the podcast today. We have a lot in common and I love his knowledge and wisdom about spirituality, natural medicine, elevating, human consciousness and thought he’d be a perfect guest for the podcast.

Season 5, Episode 7

What’s up, guys? I want to give a shout out to all the people that have been listening to the podcast for the last two full years. Actually, three full years. And I also want to give a shout out to all the new people who have been listening for the last couple of weeks. Our numbers are consistently growing by dozens every single week. And I just want to give a huge shout out to all the new listeners out there. If you like the podcast, if you’re enjoying the content, please subscribe, leave a review, share it with a friend or family member member now, right to the episode. What’s up, everybody? Welcome to the life coach act podcast. Today is a very special episode. I got a good friend of mine coming on the podcast today. His name is Jon. Jon Palatnikov. And I met Jon at the gym back in 2022 I think it was middle of 2022. We’ve become friends ever since. We have a lot in common. I really loved his knowledge and all the wisdom that he shared with me about spirituality, natural medicine, elevating, human consciousness, and I figured he’d be a really good guest on the podcast. So for all you listeners out there, if you haven’t already reviewed, subscribed to the podcast, go ahead and do that, and we’ll get right to the episode. Jon. What’s up, my man? How are you doing?

JONATHAN

What’s going on? I’m great. How are you doing?

 ZACH

I’m doing well. Thanks so much for asking. So for all the people out there listening, Jon has a bachelor’s in alternative medicine, and he’s very knowledgeable on natural healing. And I figured that this episode would be very relevant to one of the Instagram posts that I just put up this week about how I’ve had two full ACL reconstruction surgeries, and I’ve ran three full Iron Man triathlon. So if that’s not proof that injuries cannot or do not, excuse my language, prevent you from accomplishing amazing physical endurance feats, I think that says a lot. And I wanted to get Jon here to tell us more about alternative medicine. But Jon man, how are you doing today?

 JONATHAN

I’m great. I’m feeling great. Life is good.

 ZACH

 Good, brother. You look good.

 JONATHAN

Thank you. Likewise.

 ZACH

Tell us more a little bit about all the experience you have, what you’ve learned getting your bachelor’s in alternative medicine and how it’s related to your life day in and day out.

 JONATHAN

Okay, so it’s been a fascinating journey. Life in general is crazy. Everybody knows that. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always leaned towards being a veterinarian because I love animals. And I think that animals don’t get the treatment that they deserve because they’re such sacred creatures that were here on Earth before us. For the most part, we’re animals, too, but but I realized later down the line that humanity is really what needs to be healed. We’re the ones that need to have a better perspective nature so that we can treat animals better, and nature itself. So I was never big into pharmaceuticals or Western medicine, and my path kind of led me towards natural medicine. And I found a good school not too far away, about 40 minutes away from where I lived. And it’s the only school in Florida where I live that actually teaches natural medicine. So it was very convenient, and it was the best decision I ever made in my life. The knowledge that I learned there is stuff that everybody needs to know. Natural medicine is the first medicine. It’s the original medicine. And modern day science tries to disprove a lot of things that we’ve been using for thousands of years to heal ourselves. But it is the original medicine. A lot of things are based off of that.

 ZACH

So tell us more about natural medicine and what are some of the most common practices when it comes to natural medicine?

 JONATHAN

So natural medicine is a very broad term. There are so many different modalities of healing. I learned a little bit about Chinese medicine, about acupuncture, about homeopathy, about herbology. I took a chiropractic course. There are so many different ones. And here in the west we mostly recognize chiropractic medicine. It’s finally given the respect that it deserves because people don’t understand. The chiropractic medicine is actually very old. It was never called that thousands of years ago. There is forms of Chinese medicine that do the same things. They adjust the spine and things like that. But Western medicine kind of rediscovered it. So that’s one of the common forms of natural medicine that we practice here in the west. But Eastern medicine, there’s still a lot going on. We have acupuncture that’s being recognized over here. Herbology, the common practices I would say people follow the most without even knowing it is stuff like grounding. It’s stuff like being out in nature, going for a walk, being exposed to sunlight itself and even meditation, things like that. That is the biggest thing for your health because if your mind is healthy, then the rest of your body will follow afterwards.

 ZACH

Love that great explanation. Simple, practical, easy to understand. I’ve tried acupuncture myself, even though I don’t really like chiropractors too much because the cracking in my back kind of just freaks me out a little bit. I definitely know a ton of people who have received incredible benefits and results from going to chiropractors. Grounding is something I do often, just walking without shoes on in the grass. So I definitely vibe and love all of the things that you’re talking about, the exercises that you’re naming. But tell us more about I’m putting you on the spot here a little bit. If there was a protocol. A natural medicine protocol that everyone should do regardless of weight, regardless of where they live, regardless of their physical fitness goals. What would be the natural medicine protocol?

 JONATHAN

I would say mindfulness. Be very self aware because a lot of times people lose connection with their own body and they don’t know know when their body’s trying to tell them something. Usually you eat like, a bad meal, and then later on your body is like, oh, this isn’t good. But if you’re in tune with yourself, you’ll know what’s right to eat and what’s not before you even put it in your mouth. I think mindfulness is very important because then you’ll be able to just be very self aware. You’ll eat the right foods, you’ll drink water is like the ultimate cure all because we’re 70 some percent water. And water has a frequency to it that has healing properties. And just drinking water all day long will help detox a lot of things that you have in your body and just eating the right foods. Health is wealthy a lot. This country, you know, we eat very poorly, and it reflects on us. Definitely. So I think better eating habits would be the number one biggest medicine and mindfulness. So I guess, hopefully that was a good answer.

 ZACH

No, that was a great answer, and I want to piggyback off that a little bit. I think those two go hand in hand because awareness and mindfulness, as you said, is so important in everything that we do. And because we eat every single day, multiple times a day, forever, it’s important that we optimize that experience, and it’s important that we do it in a good, healthy, and balanced way. So it’s not just about what nutrients you’re putting in your body or at what times you’re eating. It’s about becoming more aware of how you’re going to feel after you put something in your body. For example, for me, there are healthy foods that my body doesn’t really respond to well, and apples are one of them. I know that after I eat an apple, I don’t know if it’s the fiber, I don’t know if it’s the skin of the apple. My body rejects it. I feel extremely full. I feel lethargic. And look, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. And I believe that statement. Obviously, it’s a very blanket, vague, and surface level statement, but we’ve all heard an apple a day keeps the doctor away basically means eat an apple a day, you’ll be healthy. Eat fruits and vegetables, you’ll be healthy. But for me, an apple doesn’t really digest well. And I only know that because of mindfulness. I only know that because of awareness. So I think the practice of being more mindful when you eat is important. And one of the tips, tricks, and hacks I want to share with my audience before we get to the next question is when you’re eating, try to eat slower. Put the fork down between bites. Bites to have a smile between bites. You’re supposed to chew your food twelve times before you swallow. And practices like this are very critical when it comes to digesting your food. But being aware of what you’re eating, I love that a lot. So what else did you learn when it comes to natural medicine? Or what are some of the natural medicine practices that you’re trying to implement into your life? Okay, so diet would be one of them, because I feel like I could be eating better. To go off of what you said about the whole apple thing, I just want to say really quick that an apple a day, that phrase, they’re on the right track. But it could also be because of the food industry that we reject certain foods. Like maybe your body rejects GMO apples. Maybe certain apples were genetically modified, and the body recognizes that. And maybe you were so used to eating organic foods that maybe the apples that you buy at the grocery store may not be the ones that nature intended. I think you’re right.

 JONATHAN

Yeah. So that’s a big thing.

 ZACH

And hold that thought, because that’s the only fruit I eat that’s not organic, I don’t think. I usually just cook up an apple. It’s got to be it. That’s got to be it. So I’m going to try eating organic apples. I don’t know why I don’t pick out organic apples. You just made me realize that. But go on with your thoughts.

 JONATHAN

Well, because most apples are a lot bigger now, and they’re not supposed to be that big. They’re genetically modified. So you’re going to want to eat the smaller apples that don’t look as appealing and don’t have that wax coating on top to make them look shiny and glossy. That’s not what nature had, and that’s something that humans created to make food look more appealing, but it’s not any better for you may still have some of the nutrients, but it’s not the apples that we’ve had hundreds of years ago before the food industry went and mass produced things and genetically modified them. I want to go back to the question you had for me. So you were asking me about some of the things that I learned during my bachelor’s for natural medicine, the two things that were huge to me that I’ll never forget. One, I forgot what the law is called. There is a law of nature. I’m going to paraphrase a little bit, but you can look at certain herbs, certain fruits, certain plants in general, and they can tell you exactly what they’re going to do for you. I forgot what the principle is called. I’ll have to get back to you another time with that. But for example, walnuts are shaped like a brain, and it’s been found that walnuts have certain omega threes that actually help brain function, and they’re shaped like a brain. Also, grapes look like the avioli in your lungs, like the little air sacs in your lungs. Grapes look like that, but they also have healing abilities for the lungs. They can help clear some of the mucus in your respiratory tract. It’s things like that where nature kind of gives you hints and clues as to what it’s going to do for you. There’s plenty of free. Fruits out there you can cut open, I don’t know, a pomegranate or a pear. And the shape on the inside may look like something related to the human body. And it’s almost like nature evolved with us to cure us. It’s fascinating stuff. It really is. It’s almost like there’s some divine power out there, hint to some people that’s kind of guiding us in the right direction. I can get into that all day. I know we don’t have a whole lot of time, but maybe you and I could chop it up about that sometime.

 ZACH

We’ll definitely chop it up in the sauna.

 JONATHAN

Yeah, absolutely.

 ZACH

Tell us more about how because I know you’re a very spiritual person. Talk about how everything we just talked about for the last 13 minutes is connected to spirituality. And what does that mean and how can people leverage that and use that to their advantage?

 JONATHAN

Everything is spirituality because everything is energy. And when it comes to natural medicine or diet or mindfulness, it’s all interconnected, no matter what. All the dots are already connected for us. It’s just that us as a species kind of got away from spirit a little bit over the past few thousands of years. We kind of lost touch with nature. And this is where we come from. The Earth created us. Like, the Earth is one giant spiritual organism. It’s a celestial body that we sprouted from, just like the plants that were here before us. And everything is super interconnected. Everything is energy. Everything is frequency and vibration. And that’s my definition of spirituality. The oneness, the interconnectedness between us and everything else in the universe. I think the universe is one giant, conscious spiritual being, and we are all part of it. And I like to tell people when they’re a little down on themselves and they’re like, oh, I wish I wasn’t here. Well, if you weren’t here, then the universe wouldn’t be complete. Each of us are a piece of the puzzle. And if someone were to cease to exist, then the universe would no longer be whole. And that’s what spirituality is about. It’s wholeness. The interconnectedness, how we are all in this together. We’re all spiritual beings, and we have to love each other. We have to recognize that we’re one big spiritual being together.

 ZACH

Right? I love that. We are all in this together. We’re supposed to love one another. And in 2022, and even before that, we’ve seen a lot of war going on. We’ve seen a lot of hatred, whether it’s of people hating other people for this, that, and the other. So do you feel like the universe? Or do you feel like I’m going to use the word God here? Do you feel like the universe or do you feel like God is testing us or challenging us in some way, shape or form?

 JONATHAN

I think the whole concept of God isn’t what we speculated it to be. I think God is just the universe itself and everything in it. And every being in the universe with free will has the option to start a war or to create love and peace and we’re all here for the experience to be tested by the universe. I think that this human life is a small blip in the grand scheme of things, that this is just us experiencing what it’s like to be humans and humans make mistakes. That’s the whole point. That’s the reason why this plane of existence is not heaven. Heaven would be something in another dimension, something that’s way bigger than we can ever fathom. A place like that would be the destination and this is the journey right here. And we have to make decisions along our path and there are evil forces out there that are going to wage war, that are going to make sure that we are divided. Because like I said, when we are one, we become the universe itself. We become very powerful beings when we learn to be unified and we reach our full potential together. And closing the circle, at first of all, that was a beautiful explanation. Well said. Thank you, Jon. And really coming full circle and closing the loop here when it comes to the universe and it comes to God, and whether you believe in this religion or that religion, or maybe you do not believe in God whatsoever, I can only speak for myself. But I think Jon would agree with me when I say we respect and we admire everyone’s faith, because if we didn’t, we wouldn’t be showing love and compassion and empathy to other people because we’re all in this together. We’re all neighbors, we’re all brothers and sisters and we all just want to be healthy and happy, right? And feel peace and joy in our heart. And bringing it full circle back to the natural medicine, in the sense that this is why water, which covers over 80% of our earth, and this is why grounding walking on the earth, in the dirt, in the grass, this is why meditation connecting to our breath, the first thing we do when we pop out the womb is breathe. Meditation connecting to our breath is so important. Self love and affirmations are so important. And these are all different arms that comprise natural healing and this really brings everything full circle and it really bridges the gap between natural medicine and the universe.

ZACH

So I think I agree with everything you say as much as conviction I have have. And I agree with everything you say, as much conviction as I have, that everything you’re saying is. Truth. There’s nothing to lose, in my opinion, in believing it, regardless of if it’s true or not. We’re either going to die and go to heaven or we have heaven inside us right now when we just our consciousness and our spirit lives on. And we’re just the wind and we’re the birds and we’re the tree and we’re the sky and we’re the volcanoes and we’re the hills and valleys and mountain peak tops, and we just see life for the beauty of what it is. Because most humans can’t recognize that. Or maybe we cease to exist. Maybe because everything is possible that we do cease to exist. And if that is the case, which I don’t believe, if that is the case, it still doesn’t affect me being happy right here, right now with what I got from where I’m at. It doesn’t affect me learning and growing and getting stronger and helping and giving and serving humanity as a whole. So that’s kind of my spiel on everything as far as all that goes. What do you think about that?

 JONATHAN

I’m glad you brought that up. I have a very interesting concept for you. So you’re talking about respecting everyone’s faith. Well, what if I told you that I am everybody else’s faith? What if I told you that my version of spirituality is believing? That every religion, every ideology and belief system has a piece of the puzzle, has a certain truth to it, and everything is all interconnected? I think there is one truth, one reality, and it branched out into multiple beliefs. And if you notice in a lot of religious texts, they’re saying kind of the same things amongst different places on Earth, different cultures. They all talk about very similar things, like, for example, praying and meditation. Give me a difference between prayer and meditation. Right? There’s not a whole lot of difference. One is you’re asking God for something. The other is you’re asking the universe to manifest something for you. It’s a very similar concept. So I not only respect everyone else’s faith, but I believe in a little bit of everybody’s faith. I believe that every religion and ideology is a piece of the puzzle that comes together to create the bigger picture. And I think that’s what it’s all about. I think it’s keeping an open mind and doing your research, looking at different belief systems and kind of gathering and absorbing what you need to take from that and build your own understanding of life and the universe.

 ZACH

Absolutely. And as I sit here and I look at Jon through the computer screen and I’m listening to his words and listening to him articulate his thoughts, I can’t help but to think how smart he is, and I can’t help to think about how wise he is beyond his years. But one thing I really do respect and admire about you, Jon, is your humility and the fact that there is some things that you can be wrong about. It is possible that there are other ways to do things in life. And humility and a beginner’s mindset is the reason why you’re able to grow. It’s the reason why you’re already accomplishing incredible things in your life. And I really do appreciate that. Man. I try to embody, humility and be humble each and every single day because I’ve seen the results from being humble and I know that’s really off topic, but I kind of just wanted share that with you.

 JONATHAN

No, thank you. I appreciate your kind words. I think that it usually takes a traumatic experience or somebody losing everything to become humble finally. But I say start now. Don’t wait until everything is taken from you to finally learn how to love and appreciate other things and everybody else and be humble. Start now. Just start showing love and light

 ZACH

towards everything. And then when it comes to starting now, someone is listening to this podcast and they want to apply it to their life. When it comes to natural medicine, what’s something that they can do? And start now to implement some of the things we talked about with natural medicine and healing.

 JONATHAN

First of all, just start with meditation because everybody needs to be self aware and learn about what their body is asking for. That will help you choose your diet better. Just be a lot more mindful and just sit there for when was the last time most people sat down with themselves and got to know themselves on a deeper level? No one really does that unless they meditate. Kind of sit with your thoughts and be aware of what thoughts are coming in and out. Every time you think of something as you’re meditating, hold on to that thought. Because thoughts exist in a separate realm, in a separate dimension. Thoughts are not your own. They come from an outside source, the same source that we all share together. So when a thought comes along, you grab onto it and you say why am I thinking this? What is this trying to tell me? Is there another force that’s trying to persuade me of thinking a certain way? Negative energy is everywhere and it creates domino effects where it starts to affect our mental health if we don’t catch it immediately. Some people are trained to catch a negative thought and delete it immediately. Just delete it. Because we are computers, we can grab a thought immediately and delete it. We are the most intricate and complex piece of technology on the planet Earth. The Earth itself created us and we’re computers. We are like quantum computers that are able to not only gain full control of ourselves and our thoughts, but also to manifest is to send signals out into the universe and attract things into our life. People don’t understand how powerful we are. It’s incredible. I would start there. To answer your question, I would start with yourself, be very mindful and do your research for sure and meditate daily.

 ZACH

How often do you meditate? Or is there a protocol for other people to meditate?

 JONATHAN

I think meditating once a day should be perfect. Sometimes I don’t have a chance to meditate once a day. And myself I have a very busy schedule. But whenever you can it’s a marathon, it’s not a race. You can start right now, you can start tomorrow. But there’s nothing like the present. Tomorrow is never promised. Start right now, even if you’re busy right now. If you’re listening to this podcast on the go, as soon as the podcast turns off and you’re finished watching this episode, sit there with your thoughts. You don’t have to close your eyes and go. You could literally just be present and breathe. We forget to breathe sometimes. Take a deep breath and just sit with your thoughts. And I think it’s a type of meditation, like awaking meditation or something like that, where you can just go along your normal day, your normal schedule and just be mindful. Just let thoughts come and go and absorb them. Take the message from each thought and see how it serves you and move on to the next.

 ZACH

 Absolutely. Sorry. Were you

 JONATHAN

I wanted to bring something up from earlier when we were talking about faith and religions and you were talking about how it is possible after this life for there to be nothing. I want to say to you that because we brought up manifestation. What if I told you that each belief system is something that you manifest for yourself and you choose where you go after you leave this earth? What if I told you that every day we are creating our own afterlife with our thoughts, with our beliefs, and we manifest it for ourselves. If someone lives with a lot of guilt and they believe that they deserve to go to hell subconsciously, they may end up in a place similar to that. Or if they believe there’s nothing after this, it’s total darkness. Who knows? Maybe they may end up there as well and to avoid or you end up in a purgatory until you finally realize where you want to go. I think some people end up in just the astroplane where they’re just existing in this purgatory, floating around as a soul because they had no belief system and they don’t know where to go next until you finally figure that out for  yourself.

 ZACH

Amazing. That is a thought I have not that’s never crossed my mind. So I learned something today. Jon, it was such a pleasure pleasure having you on the podcast as a guest. You’re a very special guest of mine because you’re someone who. Interact with in person. And it’s very rare that I have people that I interact with in person on the podcast. To all the people that are listening that want to get connected with you, how should they reach out? You can drop your phone number, your email, your Instagram, whatever you want to share.

 JONATHAN

Yeah,  absolutely. My instagram is @JonathanT96. That’s @Jonathant96. That’s just my personal page. I’m working on a couple of other Instagram pages, but they’re not up and running yet. And if you’re interested, I work with a company that creates stem cell patches that activate your own stem cells. And because I was in the realm of natural medicine, I was approached by a representative of this company. And I don’t want to say too much about it on the podcast right now because there’s big pharma and there’s people that don’t want something like this to succeed, because stem cell research may just be the end all, be all for health. If you want to learn more, I just gave you my Instagram just DM me. I can tell you more about this product, but I use it every day. I’m wearing a patch right now on my neck, and it basically just activates dormant stem cells in the body. And it’s not like you’re injecting stem cells from somewhere else. These are your own stem cells that aren’t being used because as we age, we don’t use as many stem cells and they die off essentially because we don’t know how to activate them. I wear this patch. It’s a non transdermal patch that does not enter the skin. It has a special crystal in it that’s sensitive to light, and it activates through sunlight and body temperature, body heat, and it sends a frequency or vibration into your body to activate the mitochondria of those stem cells. And then your brain will do the rest. Your brain will tell you where to go. So if you’re interested in learning more about stem cells and what this patch is all about, you can reach me on Instagram. I want to give my phone number out on the podcast only because I’m going to get a bunch of random texts and calls, but Instagram is something I can access a few times a day, kind of look at the DMs and reach out to people. But, yeah, I just wanted to bring that up because we were talking about natural medicine and stem cells are the future.

Psychedelics & Personal Growth with Transformation Coach Albert Monachese!

ZACH: Albert

ALBERT: Hey, good morning

ZACH: Good morning how are you?

ALBERT: I’m well how are you?

ZACH: I’m doing very well, thanks so much for coming to the Life Coach Zach podcast.

ALBERT: Super excited to be on, man.

ZACH: Very cool. For all of you guys listening that don’t know Albert. Albert is a coach helping individuals grow spiritually and transform their lives. He’s founder of the Clean Consciousness Formula and he’s @personalgrowthacademy on Instagram. So Albert, tell us more.

ALBERT:  First of all all I just want to say thank you so much for having me on, I’m really excited to get to talk a little bit about my mission and my journey, what got me to where I am. So how it all kind of started (I’m going to keep this part of little brief) but from a very young age I didn’t perform as well as all my friends in school so at some point my brain decided that I wasn’t smart so I made all these really young decisions like I’m going to work construction. I’m going to focus on being popular and you know partying and I’m just going to get a high-paying construction job and kind of go on from there. I got out of high school and I entered into the trades immediately. Didn’t even consider going to college. Once again I was heavily invested in being popular and partying and all of this and that and very shortly after that I just started to find myself feeling very unhappy even though I was making pretty good money in the trades. My friends were in college and I was making really good money off the bat so all my friends…  No one really understood why I wasn’t happy because everyone was just equating it to like the money I was making. I was very very unhappy and that led me into a series of terrible relationships and into a very deep depression and drug addiction. That led from you no, alcohol and blow and overdoing it and blacking out drinking and then it actually ended up taking me into like the depths of an opiate addiction. I was doing painkillers and heroin and I was in a place where I did not think that I could ever transform my life in such a way to have more. I had accepted the construction job that I hated. I accepted the amount of finance I was able to bring into my life. I accepted that I was maybe only going to be able to attract certain kinds of women. So that led me into a two-year-opioid depression. At the end of the two years when I finally hit the point of like I’m willing to do any f****** thing possible to really change my life. I looked into doing some Psychedelic Retreats.  I ended up doing ibogaine which is a very strong psychedelic that comes from Africa and I did it in a ceremonial setting with shaman and that literally gave me the craziest connection and the craziest mindset and perception shifts that I have ever experienced in a short amount of time. Like from then to now I’ve had many more shifts but it’s taking time. This was like, you know, I went on the one Journey experience and like my whole entire perception of life was flipped upside down in one night. I stop using heroin. Stopped using opiates like instantly. But I did continue to you know, drink a little bit with the boys and hit the odd line here and there. I tried all rehabs, and I went to every therapist and every Alcohol Anonymous meeting, I went to everything and nothing clicked for me. Then I had this psychedelic journey and I realized that I hold the keys. I’m able to take any area of my life and change it. Once I had that realization I deep dove into personal growth. Had a couple of other psychedelic experiences. I deep dove into meditation. I’ve read every fu**in personal help, growth book you could read, read them multiple times. I just really started to apply everything I was learning into my life. And one thing after another I was able to change every single area of my life to the point where it’s been 5 years since I’ve touched an opiate, and it’s been over 3 years since I’ve had a drink or done a line. I was able to attract the most perfect, most supportive partner for me where I’m in like the most perfect marriage now. I was able to attract a career change and more finances than I ever had working in construction. And I don’t work, I work from home now I just have an online coaching business, so I was able to completely change my career, completely change my financial life, completely change my relationship life and completely change the way I feel about myself. So I then decided to go to Peru. I went to Peru and I did Ayahuasca and DMT with some Shaman’s and from there I decided that I was going to f****** get online and start making my life about service to others and that’s when I created Clean Consciousness. I wanted to offer people a way of recovery that wasn’t the traditional methods. All the traditional methods of recovery, I call them the disease model, which is they tell you you’re diseased. They tell you you’re an addict for life. They pretty much give you all these limiting beliefs but they don’t teach you how to move past addiction. It’s like people get clean time but they’re still an addict. They still have all these limiting beliefs, they’re life doesn’t really change beyond they just got clean. I’m clean but I’m still miserable and I still can’t change anything in my life. I just accepted that I’m an addict. Accepted the limiting beliefs and got clean right? Which is great, it’s a win, but I was looking for more. I just figured it out, like I said earlier, that the keys were within myself. So I created Clean Consciousness and I started working with people in recovery and I started helping them make changes in their lives. That blossomed into me starting Personal Growth Academy where now I am open to working with anybody looking for transformation in any area of their life. Right now I’m offering specifically towards people who are looking to make changes and attract a perfect partner. Perfect relationship. So yeah that’s kind of like the basis of what happened. Like I said now I’m 5 years clean and I don’t hold any of those limiting beliefs. I don’t define myself by the past. I defined myself in my vision of the future and I’ve completely let go of the addiction and any sort of limiting beliefs that I held around that. I’m at a point where I’m just completely excited because what I’ve done in the last 5 years is so amazing and I want to share it with people. I just can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in the next 5 years you know what I mean? Even things like, you know, you reaching out to me. The story behind me manifesting my wife was crazy because… I’ll just give you a brief one on that. Broke up with my last shitty relationship and I told myself that I’m going to be single and happy first and if I do ever enter into another relationship it has to have certain requirements. It has to meet X Y and Z. As soon as I made those strong decisions I literally bumped into my wife at a music festival in the potty lineup. We started chatting and I spent the whole festival with her and we’ve been together now four years. We met in August at a festival and that October we flew to Vegas and eloped, two months later and now we’ve been married four years and I literally, I made these decisions. I had a picture in my head of what I wanted or else I was just going to make myself happy, I was going to focus on being single and happy and then this relationship just fell in my lap. So much cool shit has transpired in the last few years for me.  And beforehand, I had already been married and divorce once prior. After that marriage I was in a slew of shitty relationships up until I made these choices and then I manifested this perfect relationship. So, like I said, I want to help people, whomever is having struggles in any area of their life, find a way to go inside, go internally, do the internal work to then manifest the reflection of them on the inside. If that makes sense.

ZACH: Sure, makes complete sense. Albert, first of all I want to say congratulations on getting over your addiction and getting past everything that was bringing you down and blossoming into this new life, this new person. Dude honestly, really congratulations. I’m super proud of you and it’s super inspirational.

ALBERT: Thank you Bro!

ZACH: It’s inspirational for people like me who, you know, I do have my shit together, but there’s so much more for me to accomplish. There’s so much more awareness that I can turn inside and there are so many more experiences, whether that’s with psychedelics or a trip to Peru or Ayahuasca DMT. These are the things that I am very open-minded to. These are things that I have been, not passionate about, but interested in over the past couple of years since getting into mindfulness, since getting into meditation. Since learning about the universe and how we’re all connected and how, you know magic mushrooms or Ayahuasca, some of these natural herbs or whatever you want to call them, can really open up our mind to our purpose. They help ground us.

ALBERT: A lot of people are under a misconception. These are not like party drugs, they’re not like going out with your buddies and doing mushrooms or doing DMT Ayahuasca, like these things are like in ceremonial settings and very very spiritual and you go in with an intention and you always come out of it with a lesson. A lot of times they’re not fun. They’re just so beyond intense, like I wouldn’t call them a fun experience you know? They were amazing. Life changing. And I’m open to having other experiences down the road myself also, but I wouldn’t be like Whoohoo like it was so fun… Ayahuasca! It’s very very intense and very eye-opening and it’s crazy how it can create such a massive shift in the way you think. I grew up and I was like the most egocentric, most disconnected person you could ever meet and I was never happy. Then I did these things, I made my connections and I found God, not in a religious sense, I found spirituality, found my internal non-physical self through some of these things and then also my own work like meditation and shit and it just completely f****** changed my life! Even after getting clean. Shortly after I went vegan, so it’s about four years in January that I’ve been vegan. I’ve literally been able to change every single area of my life. So many people have limiting beliefs that they can’t f****** change what they have going on and they accept what is… Even if they’re not happy right? And they will convince themselves that they have to appreciate it and they have to be happy and they should feel lucky for what they have even though deep down inside they don’t f****** like it and want to change it. They want more but they’re scared to ask for more.  They’re scared to ask for these changes, because maybe they will disappoint themselves if they ask for more and they don’t get it right? So people are like… ohh, I’m content. I’m trying to break people away from that and have people really really dig deep and figure out what the f*** they want and ask for it, you know?

ZACH: Yeah, so let me ask you a question Albert. I want to go on a guided journey. I want to take psychedelics. Where do I find psychedelics?

ALBERT: Well, because of my past with partying I had a couple people that I was able to kind of reach out to, to see if they can point me in the right direction. Going to Peru, I found the most reputable tour trip into the Amazon. I didn’t just land in Peru and find some dude on the street and be like, yo, like hook me up with Ayahuasca. That was planned through an Amazon Retreat trip, you know? It’s hard for me to really tell you how you’re going to source these out on the street. At the end of the day these things are drugs.

ZACH: That’s a conversation we can have off the podcast. My point, is this is something I want to do and I know that there are professional ways to do this, whether that is a guided journey or an Amazon Retreat in Peru with a Shaman and things like that.  I have done shrooms before. I’ve done shrooms 3 times in college. When I went into that experience, it was like me and some fraternity buddies. Hey, let’s take some Magic Mushrooms and hang out all day. We walked around campus, we sat in a dark room with a laser pen, listening to some crazy vibey music and it was so much fun. The next day I did wake up with a bigger purpose of life and I felt more grounded. And I didn’t really have such an attachment to all the superficial things that I cared about prior to my journey. I wasn’t in the same place as I am now and when you told me your story, and I’m not going to say it’s very similar to mine, yours was way more intense and way more impactful, you’ve accomplished way more as far as just like a life transformation you know? I was dealing with severe depression after I was on a reality TV show and for the last five years, just like you, I woke up at 5 a.m, I’ve meditated for 20 minutes, I’ve gotten 1% better every single day whether that means one extra rep at the gym, one extra page in a book, I mean I’ve read 34 books this year. I read about 30 books last year. I’m addicted to personal growth just like you. I’ve read every single book pretty-much but there are plenty more to read.  I’ve become a lot more passionate about spirituality and I’ve become a lot more passionate about consciousness. You and I have a lot in common when it comes to that. Really being aware of our thoughts, where our thoughts come from and how we’re able to manifest our goals and dreams, you know, by being aware of this. Controlling our thoughts which change our emotions. Which raises our frequency. Which projects out into this quantum field. This is the natural law of attraction.  This is a real law just like gravity. Just like any other relativity, whatever you want to call it. This is a real thing, Law of Attraction. So I’m really really passionate about doing that and I think I’m just scratching the surface and I would love to work with you and I would love to learn more about your coaching and how that can not only help me, but the audience is well.

ALBERT:  Yeah man we can absolutely talk about that further. What you were saying about the laws of attraction and frequencies and embodying a frequency of what you want to manifest in your life before you have it. These are all the things that I’m also into. For a lot of people out there who are struggling to find a spiritual connection you tell someone… oh, Laws of Attraction and they just kind of think, oh yeah think positively. It goes way way deeper than that and it gets into the frequencies and the f****** quantum field.

ZACH: Science… It’s real.

ALBERT:  Yeah you know what I mean? I’m just kind of obsessed with that whole area of learning and like I said I know that there’s so much more to learn. At the end of the day no matter what your experience is your experience is your experience and my experience is my experience and my experience is a reflection of how I value myself. It’s a reflection of the internal me no matter what. Until you can make that connection and take responsibility for your life on that level? You’re only going to have f****** surface-level changes. You’re not going to actually transform your life. So yeah that’s actually a huge part of my mindset section is like just f****** taking responsibility for your experience and making it happen.

ZACH: Yeah, nobody’s perfect. We all have our demons, we all have our vices. I’m sure there are things that Tony Robbins is working on beating. At the end of the day, hiring a coach, and this is one of the reason I started this podcast, because Mentors have been so impactful in my life and I’ve gotten so much value from these Mentors, whether that’s reading a book by Dale Carnegie, or watching a youtube video from Dr. Joe Dispenza.

ALBERT: He’s my boy!

ZACH: Dude, he is by far one of my top two favorite authors. He is incredible. “Becoming Supernatural” is such a great book dude.

ALBERT: It’s one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read.

ZACH: It really is.

ALBERT: I do his meditations on the regular.

ZACH: I do his meditations on the regular too. He has a heart coherence meditation, it’s like 13 minutes long…. Feel the space between your eyes, feel the space underneath your chin, feel the space between your knees. You can feel the quantum field. You can feel the quantum field in between your knees. There is space there. Just like there is space between the computer and my face right now. There is space between the entire universe. Long story short, Mentors are so important, so someone like you can definitely help me become more conscious and be able to control my future and everything that’s going on in my life so I’m very excited to have a conversation with you off the podcast.

ALBERT: Yeah, I’m super excited that you reached out and that this all worked out the way it has.

ZACH: In the meantime I am going to find some magic mushrooms. Let me ask you a question…

ALBERT: HAHAHAHA

ZACH: No I’m deadass serious, Let me ask you a question.  When you had your psychedelic Journey that ended your heroin addiction and created a different path to an addiction of personal growth was that psilocybin, was it DMT, was it LSD?

ALBERT: It’s called Ibogaine.  It’s a tree bark from Africa that you eat and it last extremely long it was like 16 hours, a complete like introspective look at myself plus a look at the cosmos.

ZACH: Sounds lit.

ALBERT: It really was, but like I said I wouldn’t really call it a fun thing. I honestly see myself doing Psychedelic Retreats in the future. I’m just trying to figure out the logistics of it and how to make it like legal, cuz I don’t want to get in trouble. I’m not trying to do illegal shit, you know what I mean? So once I figure all that out I potentially am going to be holding my own Retreats.

ZACH: Awesome I’m there, put me down, I’ll pay a deposit, I’m there.

ALBERT: I do know of a couple people locally here that have some Retreats that I could probably get you on their email list. They’re like legitimate ceremony retreats too. It’s not sourcing drugs out on the streets, not like that. I can see myself holding Retreats locally and then I would like to eventually be holding maybe a 4 day or even week long retreats in Costa Rica with a couple psychedelic experiences and then meditation and yoga and vegan plant based whole food, the whole f***in thing.

ZACH:  I want people to understand that these drugs that were talking about these are natural drugs that come from the earth. They are Gaia. If you don’t know what gaia is, gaia is the life of the earth. The earth is a living breathing organism and these drugs (I’m using air quotes) come from Gaia, they come from the earth. I feel like God is kind of just pushing us in this direction. That hey like this is what’s really going on. All this surface-level s*** Biden, Trump election and you know, all this bipartisan, and I don’t wanna get into politics at all, but there’s just so much surface-level s*** okay. The freaking 2020 election is the most surface-level shit ever. None of these politicians are accomplishing f****** jack shit! They’re not doing shit. They’re taking money from people and they don’t give a f*** about us honestly guys. I’m sorry if I’m hurting anyone’s feelings or anything but you know let’s really turn our attention inwards and start experiencing God.

ALBERT:  Those two dudes Trump and Biden those guys need psychedelics more than anyone.

ZACH:  And on that note LOL…. Albert it has been a freaking pleasure having you here this conversation went so well. I’m so elated that we ended up connecting on Instagram and doing this podcast and we’re absolutely going to do another podcast where I follow up with you on my guided journey with psychedelics

ALBERT: Damn right, I’m super interested bro.

ZACH: Is there anything else you want to leave the audience with today? Obviously go follow Albert on Instagram, @personalgrowthacademy. Is there anything you want to leave the audience with today?

ALBERT: You were touching on Mentors earlier and I’ve had my mentors that I’ve paid for for the last two years and that is another way to find exponential growth in your life. This whole life coaching mentoring industry that is blossoming and blooming is honestly the way of the future. Internal work, spirituality and personal growth is what is going to take humanity to another level. Not the surface level bullshit you were talking about earlier.  And with that man, I hope you have an amazing week and let’s book another podcast.

ZACH: Absolutely and I love what you said about finding a mentor and becoming more deeper in your life. It’s obviously going to move humankind in the right direction. Someone who doesn’t know literally anything about this. Pick up a book by Echart Tolle, you know, pick up “The Power of Now”. Pick up “The Untethered Soul” by Michael Singer. These are like beginner books that will blow your brain.

ALBERT: Yeah, the inner roommate analogy in “The Untethered Soul” like that completely changed the way I looked at the voice in my head and that actually created the disconnect where I was able to detach from the voice and be like… “that’s my ego…. that’s not me” Also “Power of Now is one of the most epic books as well.

ZACH: I like “A New Earth” a little better than “Power of Now” for some reason but I was literally on a call with a Life Coaching client yesterday and he was having some trouble with his anxiety and XYZ and some self-conscious type issues and I was like, those thoughts in your head? You need to objectify that and personify those thoughts as a person! We now call that person Joe! We don’t f*** with Joe. We hate Joe. Joe doesn’t shut the f*** up and when Joe wants to open his mouth? We punch Joe in the f****** jaw! And that’s how we live our lives.

ALBERT: Joe gets throat punched.

ZACH: Joe gets f***** throat punched. And when he does we’re able to peel off the layers and live our true selves. We’re not humans having a spiritual experience, we’re spirits having a human experience. And that’s something that I think more people need to understand. The awareness that you’re inside your body, you’re not Albert and I’m not Zach, I’m the awareness that I’m Zach.

ALBERT:  Exactly. Even with the “Power of Now” and anxiety, you were talking about one of your clients having anxiety. All that anxiety is all fake, that’s all shit he’s making up in his mind. His ego is making that up because the future doesn’t happen, everything is a series of infinite NOWS that we live. We don’t live in the future. We create these anxieties for ourselves because people don’t have all the understanding. Your brain is creating all that story in your head. It’s not real. You can disconnect from it. It’s amazing.

ZACH: And the more you identify with it, the more you believe it, the more power you give it. The more your feeding it, the more power you’re giving our ego.

Dude, we could talk all day. I know you’re a super busy guy. I’m going to pop some Magic Mushrooms in the next couple of weeks or so. I’m going to let you know how it goes.

ALBERT: Yes, please do that.

ZACH: To all my audience listening go follow Albert on IG @personalgrowthacademy. Albert, thank you so much for coming today and I will talk to you soon.

ALBERT: Thank you so much for having me. It was such a great experience.

ZACH: It really was. Alright Albert, talk to you soon my guy.
